ABSTRACT SPECIALISTS MEET PORTRAIT MAGICIANS' in a DYNAMIC DISPLAY @ Argwings Kodhek Road, Nairobi Kenya
April 2014
Taskin Butt has some of her abstract paintings displayed at Dynamix Music & Art Studios in Nairobi from 31 March 2014 - 30 April 2014.Some of the abstract pieces at the exhibit include her very special ' Life is a Maze I & II' - a duo of paintings exploring the idea of life being a series of twists and turns with many possible paths however there being always a way through it. She says the half circles represent threats, dead-ends or closed paths in life, whereas where the lines meet and connect in her paintings signify where paths coincide & where endless opportunities exist....
The dynamic & eclectic mix of art displays in this collaboration of Kenyan artists including Taskin Butt has many already asking to meet the artists in person & also to exhibit more of their works !!.....
Taskin Butt exhibits her abstract paintings that express her feelings using colour & lines in an abstracted way. She uses vibrant & energetic colours that speak to her about the strength & fighting spirit of the human soul. The painting she calls 'Harmony after Chaos' is a reflection of her memory of emotions revealed during and after the Westgate Attack that hit Nairobi City in 2013, recalling that she started the painting before the attack and it took a very different shape when it was completed after the incident. The mix of cool & warm colours in the striking painting is symbolic of her emotions at the time, one part of the painting being an expression of the somber mood that developed during the incident and the other part, an expression of unity of purpose & harmony as people came together in thousands to show solidarity and oneness.
The display of all artworks can be viewed from 31 March - 30 April 2014.
